Past Events Perspectives on Rural and Urban Planning "Getting our Acts Together". 30 August 2005 Over the past 30 years a number of initiatives have sought to recognise and protect rural land and rural production values in South East Queensland (SEQ), the latest of which is the SEQ Regional Plan. Approximately 80% of SEQ lies within the Regional Landscape and Rural Production (RL&RP) area and there appears to be general support for protecting lands in the RL&RP from incompatible development. Planning decisions for this area have significant implications for SEQ’s conservation, natural resource, and rural production and recreation values. However, most of these areas are in private ownership and used for some form of rural production. Thus the fate of rural enterprises has significant implications for the maintenance of the other regional environmental, social and economic values. It is unclear how integrated planning and effective management of key resources and values will be conducted by numerous state agencies and local governments under various pieces of legislation. It is also unclear how local governments will conduct their planning schemes to adequately address rural land use planning issues as part of an integrated planning effort.
