Water Recycling Strategy

3 march 2005

EIANZ-SEQ and EESQ held an evening forum to update environmental and water industry professionals on current activities in water recycling with a focus on development of a water recycling strategy by Ipswich Water and on water reuse in South East Queensland generally.

The draft SEQ Regional Plan has pinpointed Ipswich as an important growth area for both residential and industrial activities.  Ipswich City Council is committed to ensuring that resources such as water do not constrain development and likewise, development does not cause depletion or damage to natural and ecological resources.  The Water Reuse Strategy is a key element in achieving this outcome.

An overview of water reuse initiatives in SEQ was provided by Mr Brian Davis, Team Leader, Water from EPA’s Sustainable Industries Division.

Mr Colin Hester, Water Recycling Project Officer from Ipswich Water then discussed issues and challenges in developing a water recycling strategy for Ipswich, a project which is being part funded by the EPA.
