Adaptation to Climate Change

Do we adopt or do we flop?

Date:               Thursday 16 February 2006

Time:              3.00pm

Venue:            Riverside Auditorium, Level 6, 123 Eagle Street, Brisbane.

The EIANZ-SEQ held an afternoon forum to introduce the key science and prediction estimates that are the evidence of climate changes happening globally and locally in Queensland.

With this forecast, what do we as Government, communities, industry, professionals and individuals need to do to adapt to these pending changes?

The State Government discussion paper "Climate Smart Adaptation" will be presented by a DNRM project team.  This paper is a process to seek broader comment and response to the discussion paper.

The Environment Institute will provide an initial response and a panel and discussion session will allow all participants to clarify and provide comment on the adaptation strategy.  From the forum the Institute will be providing a formal response to the State.

Request to participate in Government Submissions working groups

The EIANZ-SEQ are constantly working towards the improvement of Environmental Outcomes in the Queensland region.  One of the major ways in which we do this is by responding to draft plans and strategies in the form of a Government Submission.  At present, we are writing submissions in response to the follow documents:

Adaptation to Climate Change – Dept of Natural Resources and Mines

Regional Water Supply Strategy – Qld Government and Council of Mayors SEQ

(Click on the above to go with the relevant websites for these submissions – copies can be downloaded from the web)

We would like to give you the opportunity to join these working groups.  We have a wealth of experience amongst our members, so please assist us with your knowledge and enthusiasm to protect this wonderful region we call home.  EIANZ-SEQ is a non political organisation that is recognised as a peak professional body by the Queensland Government.

To join this outstanding team, please email Rose Boyd at rose.boyd@arup.com.au
